World Orthoptics Day | The importance of looking after your eyesight at every stage of life
World Orthoptics Day is an opportunity to highlight the importance of eye health and specialist care in the prevention, detection and treatment of vision problems that can significantly affect quality of life.
Orthoptics plays a key role in assessing visual function, particularly in terms of eye coordination, binocular vision, eye movement and the ability to focus. Many visual difficulties are not always solely related to ‘poor eyesight’ and may manifest through symptoms such as headaches, eye strain, double vision, difficulty concentrating or discomfort whilst reading and during prolonged use of digital devices.
The importance of regular visual inspections
Regular eye tests are essential for the early detection of changes that often go unnoticed in everyday life. In children, for example, vision problems can affect academic performance, reading and concentration. In adults, the strain on the eyes caused by digital work and the fast pace of daily life makes regular eye checks even more important.
In addition to assessing visual acuity, comprehensive eye examinations enable us to analyse how the eyes work together, visual efficiency, and the presence of any functional abnormalities that may compromise visual comfort and performance.
Seeing clearly means living better
Our eyesight is with us in virtually every aspect of our daily lives — at work, when studying, driving, playing sport and during our leisure time. Looking after your eyesight means investing in your wellbeing, comfort and quality of life.
On this World Orthoptics Day, we would like to emphasise the importance of prevention and regular check-ups by specialist professionals, as many vision problems can be treated or minimised if detected early.
Because good eyesight is essential at every stage of life.
