Today, once again, Prooptica remembers Amália Rodrigues and her contribution to Portugal's culture.

In October, Amálias 100 wine was launched as a celebration of the centenary of the fado diva's birth and we also took this opportunity to pay tribute to the fado singer once again and honour the relationship that Prooptica has with the Amália Rodrigues Foundation.

Amálias 100 wine

Amálias 100 is a red wine from the 2020 harvest (the year in which the centenary of Amália's birth was celebrated), created by seven renowned Portuguese producers to honour Amália Rodrigues and raise public awareness of the Foundation that bears her name.

Rita Nabeiro from Adega Mayor, Francisca Van Zeller from Van Zellers & Co, Maria Manuel Maia from Poças, Luísa Amorim from Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, Rita Pinto from Quinta do Pinto, Mafalda Guedes from Sogrape and Catarina Vieira from Herdade do Rocim are all taking part in this initiative, with the collaboration of oenologists Beatriz Cabral de Almeida (Sogrape), Carlos Rodrigues (Adega Mayor) and Jorge Alves (Quinta Nova Nossa Senhora do Carmo).

Aged for 18 months in the barrel and, after unifying the blend, for a further 12 months in the bottle, this wine is described by its creators as "complex, intense, elegant and with a high potential for evolution".

A limited edition of precisely 1920 bottles (the year of Amália's birth), Amálias 100 is a blend of different geographical areas of Portugal, thus representing the national figure that was Amália Rodrigues.

All the revenue generated by the Amálias 100 wine goes to Amália Rodrigues Foundation, which will use the money raised for the institutions it supports, such as Casa do Artista, and also for restoration work on Amália Rodrigues' house, which is essential for the preservation of the artist's estate.

O Amálias 100 (1.5 litre bottle) comes in a minimalist and elegant box and will be available in wine cellars, shops and restaurants.
