Back to School | Visual Acuity and School Performance

This back-to-school season, we need to make parents aware of the importance of assessing children's visual acuity in order to ensure the best performance at school.

Vision plays a fundamental role in the learning process, since around 80% of the information processed at school is received through the eyes. When a child has difficulty seeing clearly into the picture, their school performance can be significantly affected, as can their motivation, resulting in frustration and even loss of interest in their studies.

Problems such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism or visual coordination difficulties can make reading, writing and even concentrating difficult. Symptoms such as frequent headaches, rubbing the eyes, getting too close to notebooks or screens, and even inattentiveness can be signs of undetected visual impairment.

It is essential for parents and carers to be aware of these signs and carry out annual visual assessments, especially during the school development phase. Early detection of visual problems allows for rapid intervention, whether with corrective glasses, visual therapies or other solutions, ensuring that the child has the best capacity and all the faculties to learn.

Healthy vision is an essential pillar for success at school. By ensuring that your child has good visual acuity, you're ensuring that they have all the tools they need to reach their full potential in their studies and, consequently, in life.
