Back To Sport | The Importance of Vision in Sports Practice

Eyesight is one of the most important senses in sport and plays a crucial role in the performance and safety of athletes and sports fans, regardless of the sport they play. In this return to sport, it is essential to raise awareness of the impact that healthy vision has on sporting success and injury prevention.

In many sports, such as football, basketball, tennis and even precision sports like shooting or golf, the ability to focus and see clearly quickly can be the difference between good and bad performance. Visual acuity, depth perception, eye-hand coordination and visual reaction time are all skills that directly influence an athlete's performance.

Practising sport without the right corrective equipment increases the risk of injury. For all sports enthusiasts who need some kind of visual compensation, playing sports with your "everyday" glasses is absolutely inadvisable as these glasses are not designed for sports, increasing the risk of potentially serious and irreversible injuries exponentially.
Visual compensation in sport should be done with glasses specifically developed for this purpose, and today there are even solutions adapted to specific sports.

The use of contact lenses can be another alternative, and while they have the obvious benefit of providing a wider field of vision, they do have the inconvenience of not physically protecting an extremely sensitive and fragile area such as our eyes. And in sports with physical contact and/or the likelihood of having to deal with projections from foreign objects, having this physical protection drastically reduces the likelihood of injury.

It is essential that sportspeople, regardless of age, have an annual visual assessment. This routine makes it possible to detect visual difficulties early on and recommend the most appropriate solutions, ensuring that the athlete can give their best when practising their favourite sporting activity in complete safety.

Investing in eye health means investing in sports performance and injury prevention, contributing to safer and more effective sports practice.
