World Orthoptics Day | See well and live better
On World Orthoptics Day, we emphasise the importance of regular vision assessment at all stages of life. Orthoptics is a specialised field dedicated to the functional analysis of vision, with a particular focus on ocular motricity, binocular vision and the rehabilitation of certain visual dysfunctions.
Many visual alterations, such as strabismus, amblyopia (lazy eye) or coordination difficulties between the eyes, can develop silently and go unnoticed in everyday life. Early intervention, based on a careful functional assessment, is fundamental to identifying these situations and making appropriate referrals when necessary.
Even more serious vision disorders, such as glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy, may not show symptoms in the early stages. Although these situations fall within medical competence, regular observation by eye care professionals can contribute to earlier detection and facilitate referral for appropriate clinical follow-up.
Carrying out regular visual assessments, even in the absence of complaints, is an effective way of preserving visual comfort and balance - especially at more advanced ages, such as childhood.
On this World Orthoptics Day, we're reinforcing the importance of prevention and co-operation between different eye care professionals. Taking care of your sight is taking care of your quality of life - because seeing well is undoubtedly living better.
